Earmuffs Day

Evolved earmuffs...  I'm pretty sure Chester's original earmuffs looked slightly different. =POrigins
On March 13, 1877, Chester Greenwood, a man with especially large ears, patented his invention, the Champion Ear Protector. Later, this idiotic name changed to the earmuff. Earmuffs Day honors Mr. Greenwood in his protected-champion-ears glory.

Other Interesting Tid-Bits
  • Chester was a grammar school dropout, and invented earmuffs when he was only 15 years old. He made a ton of money providing these ear protectors to soldiers during World War I.
  • Later on, Chester also invented the steel-tooth rake in 1936.
  • Farmington, Maine is the "Earmuff Capital of the World." (What an honor, huh? "I am proud to say that I was born 'n raised in the Earmuff Capital of th' World!")
  • Chester had his own day, Chester Greenwood Day, on December 21, 1977.
  • Parades honor Chester on his birthday, the first Saturday of December.
